EnergyConnect is a Transgrid, ElectraNet partnership involving construction of 900km of transmission line and the largest substation in Australia.

The project will provide an interconnector to share and exchange energy between NSW, SA and Victoria. EnergyConnect is a Critical State Significant Infrastructure (CSSI) that will strengthen the National Energy Market (NEM) and allow the connection of future renewable energy development in these regions.

The NGH Biodiversity and Ecology Construction Services Teams delivered pre-construction and construction phase outcomes for the EnergyConnect Project. Our involvement commenced in 2021 and will continue until completion in 2025. NGH is working collaboratively with our valued clients Elecnor Australia, and previously, Secure Energy JV.

We are proud to have contributed to this transformational project, prioritising biodiversity and heritage protection. We thank Elecnor Australia, Secure Energy JV, and our partners for their collaboration and look forward to driving future sustainable energy projects.

Our team provided expert technical support during pre-construction with ecological and legislative compliance advice. We assisted with the preparation of the Project Biodiversity Management Plans, Wildlife Corridor Strategies and Supplementary Hollow and Nest Strategies. These plans and strategies applied to both the Western and Eastern sections of the project. Bush fire management and high-level construction advice was also provided. NGH ecologists completed extensive preclearance field surveys of fauna habitat. This information was used in the preparation of ecology plans and strategies. Our team dedicated to EnergyConnect Project comprised of over 25 skilled staff members including BAM accredited ecologists.

We remain dedicated to supporting both field and office needs during the construction phase of the EnergyConnect Project. Our services include providing Fauna Spotter Catchers and Site Ecologists to ensure compliance with native flora, fauna, and cultural heritage management during clearing activities. Our experienced Ecology Construction Services Team collaborates closely with project teams to deliver successful outcomes across various areas, offering the ecological expertise and knowledge needed to support our clients effectively.
