Businesses in the Bega Valley have faced some of the most challenging times over the past three years with fire, floods, and a global pandemic.
NGH provided facilitation, engagement, and strategy support for the development of four long term strategic plans for business growth and industry development over the next 10 years in the Bega Valley.
The place plans each included a sharp vision, key priorities, and a roadmap of short-, medium- and longer-term actions to achieve sustainable regional growth.
An engaging, productive, and well-structured approach to the planning process resulted in achievable actions that are being used to support future funding applications, inform community decision making and inspire forward thinking.
The forward planning and strategic engagement services provided by NGH has been crucial for us to be able to embrace a future full of opportunities for growth, diversification, and prosperity.

Bega Valley businesses building resilience
This project received funding from the Bushfire Community Recovery and Resilience Fund project through the joint Commonwealth/State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements to undertake strategic planning and community engagement across four impacted towns in the Bega Valley.
The Forum engaged NGH to facilitate the process of coming together to look at ways we can better collaborate, communicate and work together to strengthen strategic objectives.
Our team engaged with hundreds of business leaders across the Bega Valley to capture their aspirations, priorities, and key actions for the future. By working together, we were able to grow our plans, begin to achieve our goals and strengthen our commitment to supporting a thriving, sustainable and prosperous regional economy.
NGH
Our approach
Our approach included a desktop assessment of the current situation, including a review of previous planning assessments (to confirm the issues and opportunities for each town).
NGH also created surveys and significant online engagement site to explain the project and gather ideas.
We planned, organised, and facilitated a series of interactive planning workshops to create a 10-year vision and the top 10 key initiatives which will get us there.
Finally, NGH prepared four 10-year plans for review and endorsement through the individual Business Chambers and the Business Forum executive.
Balancing ambition and practicality
The unique placed based plans balance aspiration with achievable actions that everyone can contribute to.
The plans have been used to support successful funding applications and are a valuable resource which allows for more informed community decision making.
