Social development

Our social impact analysis services focus on understanding the context and nature of communities, and how developments may create changes to social environments – both positive and negative, over the short and longer term.

With highly qualified specialists experienced in a range of social impact assessment and evaluation methods, and stakeholder and community engagement, we can bring expert advice to every project, and provide well-informed findings and recommendations.

Our social impact assessment process

Our SIA process involves identifying, predicting, and evaluating the likely social impacts of a development and then developing appropriate responses. We take a holistic approach, considering the economic, social, and cultural impacts in equal measure.

Our extensive experience supporting renewable and non-renewable energy, water, and transport developments in various settings across Australia and New Zealand allows us to understand the nuanced social impact approaches required for different projects.

In addition to providing stand-alone social impact assessment, evaluation, and advice, we also offer these services as a fully integrated package within the broader planning and development assessment process.

Our services align with the International Association for Impact Assessment (IAIA2015) guidelines for social impact assessment, as well as relevant government guidelines and requirements, including:

  • NSW Social Impact Assessment Guideline for State Significant Projects (2021)
  • Queensland Government’s Business Case Development Framework (2020)
  • Queensland Social Impact Assessment Guideline (2018)
  • Victorian Community Engagement and Benefit Sharing in Renewable Energy Development Guide for Renewable Energy Developers (2019)
  • Infrastructure Australia Assessment Framework (2018)
  • Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Social Impact Guide (2016).
